In politics it is refreshing to get some good news, talk to some people who aren't upset about something. I like to get away from some of the negativity that dominates our public space. Not that there isn't plenty to complain about it is just nice to have a change.
I usually find these good times in the company of older people. On Saturday I attended the Age Concern 'Spring Fayre'. The event raised £1,300 for Stourbridge Age Concern and lifted the spirits of staff, volunteers and visitors alike. read more »

Older people have paid disproportionately for this government's incompetence. Council tax raises hit pensioners hardest. Responsibility for care of older people has shifted more and more from the NHS (which is free to the user) on to social services (which is means tested). Pensions have fallen far behind earnings and to get the top up pension credit people have to get means tested and fill out endless complicated forms. A lot of pension credit goes unclaimed because many older people find the means test insulting. read more »
