Nick Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister, has backed a call by Margot James, MP for Stourbridge, for the courts to impose the severest-possible penalties against the Oxford gang that exploited young and vulnerable girls.

Following the Home Secretary’s statement to the House of Commons on the case of Abu Qatada, Margot James welcomes moves to reduce the layers of appeal available to foreign criminals fighting deportation.

Margot James questions the Government about what can be done to increase the number of girls choosing a career in engineering.

Evidence was heard from Paul Coxhead, Chief Executive of Logistics Apprenticeship Training Agency in the West Midlands and John Hayes MP, the Minister of State for Further Education.

Evidence was heard from Paula Vennells, Chief Executive, Post Office Ltd, and George Thomson, General Secretary, National Federation of Sub Postmasters.

The Business, Innovation and Skills Select Committee met on 26th April to take further evidence on apprenticeships.

Margot James has congratulated a local student on hosting a performance festival aimed at showcasing the talents of young people with learning disabilities.

Margot James has congratulated local transport authority Centro on receiving three awards, two of which were for the new Stourbridge Interchange.

Margot James has lent her support to the No Limits Community Project, a local charity that works for people with able autism and asperger syndrome.

Margot James has backed the decision by the Conservative Party to select their Police and Crime Commissioner candidate by Open Primary, allowing any member of the public to participate in the vote.

The two candidates seeking votes to stand as the Conservative West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner candidate will be Matt Bennett from Birmingham and Solihull councillor Joe Tildesley. They now face four Open Primary hustings meetings:
- Erdington, 4th July, 7pm: Erdington Conservative Club, 93 Orphanage Road, Erdington, Birmingham, B24 9HU
- Walsall, 5th July, 7pm: St Matthews Centre, St Matthews Close, Walsall, WS1 3DG
- Halesowen, 10th July, 7pm: Zion Christian Centre, Little Cornbow, Halesowen, B63 3AJ
- Solihull, 11th July, 7pm: The Silhillians Club, Warwick Road, Knowle, Solihull, B93 9LW

Margot said: “I am very pleased that the Conservative Party has decided to select its candidates in this fair and democratic fashion, giving everyone in the area a real say in who stands as Conservative candidate. Joe and Matt are both exceptional candidates, and I am sure that whoever is selected will do a fantastic job should they be elected as Police and Crime Commissioner in November 2012.”
