Margot James visits King Edward VI College, Stourbridge

29th June 2010

Margot James MP visited King Edward’s on Friday June 25th to talk to year ten students from several local schools. The session was organised by Politics teacher Matt Cole as part of a study day on the recent General Election.

Margot spoke about how you become an MP and what life is like in Parliament and then took questions from the forty or so students on the study day. Questions ranged from the war in Afghanistan, to supporting local manufacturing, the government’s new free school and academies programme and the future of the Educational Maintenance Allowance.

Margot said “I am a great admirer of the teaching of Politics and Humanities at King Edward’s College. The study day for students at GCSE stage is a very good idea, and I was pleased to contribute to it. I shall be delighted if, when I return to King Ed’s in years to come, I find that some of those students from last week’s event have chosen to take Politics A level at King Ed’s. Perhaps even go on to a career in politics.”
