Animal Action Day July 7th
26th June 2009
Margot James, Conservative Party Candidate for Stourbridge, has brought the RSPCA in to help people on low incomes get advice and treatment for their pets.
Margot will be helping the RSPCA to run a Community Animal Action Day at Lye Football Club between 10.00am and 3.30pm on Tuesday July 7th.
RSPCA staff will be on hand to microchip cats and dogs. Earlier this year, following publicity in the Stourbridge News, Margot persuaded Dudley Council to acquire scanning equipment to identify micro chips in lost or injured pets. If an animal is lost, or worse killed on the road, a micro chip will enable the owner to be traced so it is essential to have one implanted in dogs and cats.
The RSPCA will be offering free micro chipping on the day. There will also be reduced price neutering vouchers for cats, dogs and rabbits as well as general pet care advice on offer.
Margot said “pets are among the casualties of the recession as cash-strapped owners struggle to pay for care and veterinary treatment, the animal action day will provide practical help to much loved pets and their owners”.
The RSPCA have reported an increase in the numbers of people unable to afford vet bills. People are being advised to think carefully about the costs of pet ownership before they add an animal to their families.
