St James’s Primary School Council welcomes Margot James
26th March 2010
Margot James, Conservative Candidate for Stourbridge, was questioned yesterday by children aged from six to 11 years who make up the elected school council of St James’s C of E Primary School in Wollaston.
The children questioned Margot on what she would do, if she were elected, about a wide range of issues. Litter, Stourbridge town centre, facilities for children in parks, help for people with disabilities and anti social behaviour were among the areas raised by the children.
Margot was given a tour of the school and was very impressed with the work of the School Council. Yesterday deputy head Sally Sixsmith announced that the council’s plans to revamp the playground had been approved. Members of the school council had researched the project by visiting state of the art playgrounds elsewhere in the borough.
St James’s school is a ‘Fairtrade’ School and the only school in Stourbridge to have this status. The school kitchen has a gold award issued by Dudley Council and Ofsted rated the school as ‘good with elements of outstanding’.
Margot said “I really enjoyed my visit to this fabulous school and the children were lovely, I have never spoken to and had a discussion with an audience of this age before and I left feeling very inspired by all the children I met”.
