Margot James MP has commended the work of the Young Foundation’s most recent project, UpRising

26th January 2012

UpRising, a leadership programme to address the issue of social mobility, aims to ensure that talented people aged 19-25 from more deprived backgrounds can excel and reach their potential across the public, private and voluntary sectors. The programme started in 2001 as a research project, but researchers felt that a long term programme was needed to engage and accelerate young people onto leadership pathways, so that they could be role models for their communities and not feel apathetic and disengaged. The curriculum is now evenly balanced between the private, voluntary and public sectors and recruits a truly diverse range of young people.

The programme has cross-party political support, including from the Prime Minister, David Cameron. It operates in Birmingham, the Black Country and Solihull, as well as in other areas of the UK.

Margot said, “Projects like UpRising are excellent to engaging young people in politics and help them to become leaders. I certainly commend the valuable work of the programme.”
