24th June 2010
Margot James, MP for Stourbridge, has been elected to the Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) select Committee. The Committee will scrutinise the conduct of government policy on business, universities, Further Education colleges, apprenticeships, science and the digital economy. The committee will also examine the role of public bodies such as Ofcom and the Office of Fair Trading.
Margot is one of only five Conservative MPs to be elected to the committee, which is made up of backbench MPs from all parties under the chairmanship of Adrian Bailey, MP for West Bromwich West.
Margot brings a twenty year business career to the service of the committee. Margot also has a keen interest in further and higher education, having been a governor of Stourbridge College and is on the board of governors of the London School of Economics.
Margot said:
“I am delighted to have been elected to serve my constituents on the BIS Select committee. Employment, the regeneration of our manufacturing industry and the improvement in our skills base are crucial issues for Stourbridge and the Black Country and I look forward to a role in which I can make a positive difference to investment and employment in our area.”
