Police and Community Meeting – Margot calls for tough action on Drug Dealers
23rd October 2008
I attended the police and partners meeting for Wollaston and Norton this week. Turn out was not good by comparison to the Pedmore meetings but it was very useful.
Clearly there has been zero improvement in the drug dealing, street drinking and other forms of anti-social behaviour around the Kingsway, Devon Road, Richmond Road and the Kent Road Park areas. Residents here are long suffering so I will be focussing on this over the next few weeks.
I have written to Inspector Galloway, who is responsible for Stourbridge Policing requesting the following:
- Pro-active policing such that residents feel a police presence in the area during the late afternoons.
- Application of temporary CCTV to the area (the most under used crime prevention resource in Stourbridge in my view).
- Information about the arrest rate for drug dealers in the area over the last twelve months.
The other main issue that came up at the meeting was speeding traffic around Racecourse Lane, Fairways Avenue. Residents were pleased to hear that PCSOs had been very active with mobile speed guns and had issued a number of speeding tickets as a result.
Residents were asked to tell the police where the speeding problems were worst. Temporary speed traps will then be established. I volunteered that I get a lot of complaints from residents on Bridgnorth Road.
