Margot James tries the new 'Turbo Jav' at Crystal Leisure Centre's Sportzone
18th February 2010
Margot James, Conservative Candidate for Stourbridge, attended the Sportzone session for children with learning and physical disabilities. Siblings and friends of the children with disabilities are also welcome making for a great mixed ability environment enjoyed by all.
But its not every day that the children welcome an Olympic medallist. Tom Petranoff, two-time world record holder in the javelin throw, introduced his ‘Turbo Jav’ at a demonstration for the children attending Sportzone. The children took to it immediately. Most had never thrown a javelin but they learned rapidly from Tom and enjoyed their new skill.
Margot was roped in to the Trampoline Skipping first as a rope swinger and then by taking a turn skipping herself.
Margot said “The Turbo Jav is now an official event in the Special Olympics, as well as being a good training device, the purpose for which it was invented by Tom Petranoff, it is also a safe way for people with learning and physical disabilities to enjoy a sport previously closed to them”.
