Margot visits Brierley Hill Samaritans Service
15th July 2010
Margot James visited the Brierley Hill (BH) Samaritans Service to take part in their round the country fundraiser. The BH branch serve a wide area west of Birmingham. Volunteers do a minimum of four hours per week helping people either on the phone or face to face. They also join with the Birmingham branch to work in Winson Green Prison. Prisoners with an aptitude for counselling are trained to act as Samaritan volunteers for fellow prisoners.
Margot said “depression, self harming and other forms of mental distress are a growing problem today and the Samaritans do a wonderful job in helping sufferers, I was very pleased to visit their service and learn more about what they do, I was also very encouraged to hear that they have a large group of younger and middle aged volunteers”.
