Abolition of 10p Tax Rate
14th April 2008
This leaflet makes clear the gross error the government has committed in raising taxes on low earning people without children. And all so Gordon Brown could score a political point over the Conservatives in last year's budget.
I remember how Brown droned through his budget only to finish with a flourish "and I propose to reduce the basic rate of income tax by 2p" designed to knock David Cameron off his stride. Over the next couple of days it became clear who was paying for this cheap "we can cut taxes even if you can't" stunt. The low paid of course.
There never was any room for so-called "tax cuts" - not from this profligate, high spending and high borrowing government at any rate.
Poor old Alastair Darling, what an inheritance to have to live with.
