RSPCA reports record numbers of animals in need of homes
8th July 2009
Margot James, Conservative Candidate for Stourbridge, brought the RSPCA to Stourbridge to hold an ‘Animal Action Day’ on Tuesday 7th July.
The event took place at Lye Town Football Club. RSPCA officers, vets, volunteers and Margot organised the care of 36 animals brought in by local residents.
In all 24 dogs and 11 cats were micro chipped and 8 discount vouchers were handed out for neutering.
Margot said “ It was a great day, as the focus was on micro-chipping most of the animals were young and at times during the day we were inundated with all types of wonderful dogs and a good number of cats. The RSPCA gave excellent advice to people on how to care for their pets in hot weather, dealing with obesity and all sorts of important pet care issues”.
There is a crisis of homeless cats in the town however. The recession has led to people not being able to afford to keep their pets; and others who would normally think about giving an animal a home are not committing at the moment due to the economic uncertainty and concerns about the cost of looking after an animal.
Stourbridge RSPCA are appealing for homes for thirty cats that are currently in their care and for whom permanent homes are needed. If you would be interested and able to give a cat a home then please call the RSPCA on 01384 394255.
