December newsletter
Keeping you up to date with my latest activities in Stourbridge. The latest campaigns, letters to the press and events in and around Stourbridge

Dear Supporter

I have now been campaigning in Stourbridge for two years exactly. I would like to thank you all for the generous support you have given me during that time. There have been various points along the way when we have thought that there might be a general election. Well, the government’s window for calling an election is gradually closing and in the first quarter of next year we will have a strong sense of whether the poll will be later in 2009 or left until 2010. Most journalists I know agree that unless Labour can get within five points of our party in the polls for a good few months it will be May 2010.

Campaigning

  • We distributed 3000 newsletters to residents in Norton during November. Since the Summer every home in the constituency has received a piece of literature from us and homes in Norton, Amblecote, Wollaston, Stourbridge Town, Pedmore and Lye have received two items.
  • The petition for double yellow lines on Church Road I led with support from Mark Pearson of the local Neighbourhood Watch was presented to the Stourbridge Area Committee. The proposal is now being evaluated by the Dudley Council’s highways department.
  • I have been assured by Cllr. Angus Adams that we will continue to have a Farmers Market in Stourbridge. Our Town Centre manager is meeting with various market companies with a view to a new operator being in place from Spring 2009.

Press

  • I wrote to the Wolverhampton Express & Star about the economic crisis and this government’s profligacy which has led to World Economic Forums predicting that the recession in Britain will be worse than most other industrialised economies. Read more

Out and About

  • I am delighted to report that I have been appointed a governor of Redhill School. I attended my first board of governors meeting in November and look forward to making whatever contribution I can to what is already considered to be one of our best schools. Read more
  • A big thank you to all those supporters of Mary Stevens Hospice who have sent in some wonderful raffle prizes for our Christmas Party next week. I have been grateful for the help of Janet Jones who is now in charge of fundraising for the hospice and is an excellent addition to the team there.
