Election 2010: We need to change our politics, our economy and our
4th May 2010
With only days to go to polling day, it is time to consider the future you want. Labour in the last stretch of the campaign, as it has throughout, will focus on fear and scaremongering.
My view is that it won’t work. That is why I, and the Conservatives, want to talk about what we will do if elected.
I recognise that trust has been eroded following the expenses scandal and the outrageous behaviour of some MPs at Westminster. That is why I have set out what you can expect from me personally on this front if I am elected as your MP for Stourbridge.
But also, I want you to know what you can expect from us as a party as we seek to govern. That is why last weekend we launched a contract between the Conservative Party and you. In it, we set out 16 pledges that will inform how we govern.
The contract outlines how we plan to deliver good schools; make people feel safe on the streets; improve our national health service; control immigration; cut wasteful government spending; support families and pensioners; and create new training and apprenticeship opportunities.
The contract represents our side of the bargain.
It sets a clear vision for how we would govern.
It provides you with reassurance that we will deliver on what we say. And if we win on 6 May and we don’t deliver, you can vote us out in five years’ time.
